Vulnerability of organic matter from thawed permafrost to degradation across space and time on the Siberian Arctic margin
Ongoing global warming is expected to accelerate thawing of permafrost over the Siberian Arctic land-ocean margin, which consequently will intensify the release of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. However, the link between permafrost thawing and greenhouse gas releases, degradation of the organic matter, is poorly understood.
My PhD project is focused on using multiple molecular and isotopic proxies of terrigenous organic carbon across the wide Siberian Arctic shelves in order to provide new insights on its degradation dynamics.
