The 2022 edition of QS World University Rankings per subject places Stockholm University among the top 50 in four subjects, and the best in Sweden in five subjects. The highest ranked subject was environmental science, where Stockholm University ranks 28th in the world.
QS World University Rankings are published by Quacquarelli Symonds, QS, a company specializing in higher education information. QS World University Ranking by topic 2022 covers five broad topics with a total of 51 subcategories. Of the overall subjects, Stockholm University is number one in Sweden in natural sciences (98th in the world) and in the humanities (132nd in the world).

- environmental science (28th)
- social policy and administration (31st)
- sociology (38th)
- geography (48th)
Best in Sweden in five subjects
Stockholm University is best in the country in environmental science, linguistics, philosophy, social policy and administration as well as sociology.
Stockholm University also occupies a leading position together with another Swedish university, or two, in ten other subjects: anthropology, archeology, English, modern languages, geological and marine sciences, geology, geophysics, pedagogy, psychology and communication and media studies.
