The 2021 edition of the QS World University Rankings by subject  ranks Stockholm University 23rd in the world in environmental science. Across all subjects included in the analysis, Stockholm University is among the top 50 in five subjects, and the best in Sweden in 14 subjects.

The five subjects that place Stockholm University in the top 50 are:

  • environmental science (23)
  • social policy and administration (40)
  • sociology (37)
  • geography (47)
  • geophysics (50)

At the national level, Stockholm University is best in the country in English, modern languages, linguistics, philosophy, geological and marine sciences, environmental science, geology, geophysics, anthropology, communication and media studies, educational sciences, law, social policy and administration and sociology.

Overall, Stockholm University ranked first in Sweden in humanities and 132nd in the world. In the sciences, Stockholm University is number 98 in the world, and second in Sweden right behind the Royal Institute of Science and Technology (KTH), which is also located in the capital.

QS World University Rankings are published by Quacquarelli Symonds, QS, a company specializing in information about higher education. This year’s ranking has analysed almost 14,000 university programs from 1,440 universities around the world. The subjects are divided into five overall areas with a total of 51 subcategories.
