Professor Anna Sobek is the new Head of Department from 1 January 2023.
Since completing her PhD from Stockholm University in 2006, Anna Sobek has spent some time at the Swiss Centre of Excellence for Agricultural Research, Zürich, Switzerland, on a Marie Curie post-doc grant. She returned to Stockholm University in 2010 and has held a permanent position at the Department of Environmental Science since 2018. In 2020 she was promoted to professor. Her research focuses on organic contaminants in the environment, and specifically how environmental systems and processes affect contaminant fate. She is also interested in how environmental risk of chemicals is assessed, and how science can contribute to that process.
Anna Sobek has been Deputy Head of Department at the Department of Environmental Science since 2019, working closely with Professor Magnus Breitholtz who was Head of Department between 2016–2022. He will now begin his new role as Senior Advisor to Stockholm University President Astrid Söderbergh Widding with operational responsibility for the environment and sustainable development.

Associate Professor Paul Zieger
Associate Professor Paul Zieger is the new Deputy Head of Department from 1 January 2023. Paul Zieger joined the Department of Environmental Science in 2014. His research focuses on the microphysical and chemical properties of aerosols and clouds, modelling of aerosol optical properties, aerosol hygroscopicity, aerosol-cloud interactions, and the interactions between ambient aerosols and clouds in the Arctic.
Paul Zieger is also Co-Chief Scientist for the upcoming research cruise ARTofMELT 2023 onboard the Swedish icebreaker Oden due to set sail from Longyearbyen, Svalbard, in May 2023.
