Collaboration

At the Department of Environmental Science, our ambition is to contribute to a sustainable society. For that, we provide support and expert advice to government agencies, private companies, non-governmental organizations, schools and other groups on a variety of issues.

In addition to our core responsibilities in teaching, research, and outreach, we strongly engage in supporting Swedish and European environment agencies with their decision-making and policy drafting.

Referenslaboratoriet

The National Reference Laboratory for Air Quality (Referenslaboratoriet för luftkvalitet – mätningar in swedish) is a support function for the Swedish municipalities in their task to measure air quality. We provide national standards for nitrogen oxides, NOx, and particle mass, PM, in outdoor air and are accredited according to ISO 17025. We also offer calibration services of ozone instruments using a Standard Reference Photometer.

You can learn more about what we do on our Swedish Reference laboratory homepage

ACES Proficiency Tests

The Department of Environmental Science at Stockholm University, ACES, organizes proficiency tests with an environmental focus for water laboratories performing chemical, physical and sensory analyses.

Expert advice

Our researchers offer expert advice to media, agencies, industry, schools and non-governmental organisations. We do this by engaging directly with interested individuals, giving presentations at seminars, organising conferences and workshops and participating in advisory groups, expert committees and boards.

You can always contact us and we will help you find the right ACES expert.

Commissioned research

We help government agencies and the private sector with laboratory and field investigations, data reviews and knowledge synthesis.

Examples of government agencies we have worked with include the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, Swedish Chemicals Agency and the National Food Agency. In addition, we have carried out commissioned research for private companies, such as Unilever and Astra Zeneca among others.

To the right, you find examples of reports and peer-reviewed scientific papers associated with current and former research commissions. Please note that in these documents, ACES is referred to as ITM, which was the former Department of Applied Environmental Science at Stockholm University.

Get in touch if you want to discuss a commission.

Strategic collaborations

On occasion, we engage in long-term strategic collaborations with external partners that share our commitment to sustainability. This is done on a case-by-case basis.

Examples of ongoing long-term strategic collaborations include:

  • Hållbara Hav (Sustainable Seas)
  • TCO Development

Get in touch if you are interested in discussing a strategic collaboration with ACES.
