Tropospheric gases and particles impact the Earth’s climate, are deleterious to human health, degrade visibility, and affect ecosystem productivity. These compounds can be emitted from a range of natural and anthropogenic sources, chemically transform in the atmosphere, and can be transported over large distances before depositing. Research in atmospheric chemistry investigates these coupled processes from local to global scales. In this talk, Collete L. Heald will focus on recent work in her group examining some of the interactions between vegetation and atmospheric chemistry. How do changing landscapes (through insect attacks, tree mortality, agricultural expansion) affect air quality? How in turn does air quality impact ecosystem health and prod tivity (e.g. impacting global food production)?
